Madiha's successful career transformation and international move from Malaysia to Singapore with Robert Walters.
For Madiha, making the international move from Malaysia to Singapore marked a pivotal moment in her career. Transitioning into recruitment has been more than just a change in profession; it's been an opportunity to thrive in a vibrant, global community.
Madiha shares her journey below.
Reflecting on my career journey, I'm amazed at how a single conversation can change one's path. With a degree in Finance and Economics, I initially envisioned a future in the financial services industry, starting as an Equity Analyst. Recruitment wasn't on my radar until a pivotal conversation with my then Director opened my eyes to this dynamic field. Over the past three years, I've experienced tremendous personal and professional growth. It's been a journey from uncertainty to clarity and from aspiration to achievement, and I'm immensely proud of where I am today.
The decision to relocate from Malaysia to Singapore was both personal and professional. On the personal front, the move allowed me to be closer to my husband, a blessing made possible by a company that values its employees' personal lives. Professionally, Singapore was an enticing opportunity for international exposure. As a leading financial hub, it offered access to a diverse clientele and a chance to work alongside colleagues, candidates, and clients from various backgrounds—a dream I've always cherished.

Since relocating, my role as a recruitment consultant has evolved significantly. While my focus in Malaysia was on permanent roles within the financial services sector, Singapore introduced me to the contracting space. This shift brought its own set of challenges and learning opportunities, demanding a faster pace and a different strategic approach. Embracing this change has been exhilarating, and expanding my expertise in this area continues to be a rewarding journey.
One of the most rewarding aspects of working in Singapore is the international exposure. As a major financial hub, Singapore is home to many multinational companies' regional headquarters. This has allowed me to engage with clients on a global scale, understanding diverse business landscapes and supporting their hiring needs. It has been an enriching experience that has broadened my perspective and sharpened my skills.
The emphasis on teamwork and collaboration is something I’ve benefited from immensely.
A significant factor in my successful transition has been the supportive culture at Robert Walters. The guidance from my teammates and the wealth of recruitment experience within the office have accelerated my learning curve, allowing me to adapt quickly and deliver effectively in this new environment.
This international move has undoubtedly shaped my professional growth and career trajectory. The exposure to a more complex market and the dynamic contracting space has honed my skills beyond what I could have imagined. Being in a mature market like Singapore has pushed me to develop rapidly, challenging me to continuously improve and innovate.
To anyone considering an international move for their career, my advice is to remain open-minded and embrace change. Such transitions can be daunting but are incredibly rewarding, offering immense growth opportunities.
Stay curious, and surround yourself with supportive and inspiring individuals.
I stay motivated by reminding myself of my reasons for moving—to grow, challenge myself, and build something meaningful. Being in a fast-paced market surrounded by talented, driven individuals keeps me inspired. Celebrating small wins and staying connected to a strong support system, both at work and outside of it, helps me remain grounded and motivated in this new chapter of my career.
