In the first 7 years of my career, I held customer-facing positions like sales. What I’ve always loved most about work is getting the chance to connect with people from all walks of life, so the move into recruitment was one I was really excited to make.
Once I got in touch with Robert Walters, I was sure it was the ideal place to start my journey as a recruiter. I knew I wanted to have a people-centric approach to my work, and to make a positive impact on people’s lives. That aligns perfectly with Robert Walters’ core values.
From the get-go, we’re encouraged to nurture genuine connections with every single person we cross paths with. What that looks like is taking the time to earn someone’s trust, looking beyond their resumes to really get to know them, and being a reliable and consistent presence whether they are on the job hunt or not. We are thoughtful in our interactions, and never transactional.
In return, it’s been truly delightful watching how the relationships I’ve made have blossomed over time. Progressing from introductory phone calls to regular coffee catch ups today, I’m honoured that my clients and candidates now feel comfortable enough to share their thoughts on their careers and personal lives with me.
A moment that stands out for me was when I got to know a candidate who was struggling in a workplace that wasn’t a good fit for her. Together, we found her a more fitting role elsewhere. Each time she calls me and gushes about how happy she is at her new company, I am reminded that I’ve made a meaningful difference.
