Commercial Design Director (Permanent)
An opportunity has arisen for an accomplished Interior Design Director to join a leading design and build firm in Singapore. This senior leadership position is ideal for someone who thrives on setting creative vision, driving design excellence, and delivering commercially successful outcomes across diverse interior environments.
What You'll Do
- Define and champion the company’s overarching design philosophy while consistently upholding creative standards across all projects.
- Lead the conceptualisation and development of innovative yet practical design solutions that align with client briefs as well as commercial objectives.
- Provide strategic guidance on workplace, commercial, retail, hospitality, and mixed-use interior projects to ensure cohesive outcomes.
- Review and approve key deliverables such as test fits, space planning layouts, concept designs, material palettes, 3D visualisations, presentations, and detailed construction documentation.
- Ensure all designs are functional, cost-effective, buildable, and fully aligned with integrated design-and-build capabilities.
- Oversee projects from initial concept through to construction completion by collaborating closely with Project Managers, Quantity Surveyors, and Construction teams to maintain design intent on site.
- Anticipate potential challenges in design coordination or technical execution and proactively resolve them to keep projects on track.
- Conduct regular reviews and quality audits across active projects to ensure adherence to agreed timelines, budgets, and quality benchmarks.
- Represent the company as the senior design authority in client meetings, pitches, presentations, and industry networking events.
- Mentor and inspire the design team by setting clear standards for workflows while providing constructive feedback to support their professional development.
What You'll Need
- At least 10 years' experience in commercial interior design with a proven record of delivering complex projects within Singapore or the broader region.
- At least 5 years spent in a senior leadership capacity within a reputable design or design-and-build firm overseeing multidisciplinary teams.
- Demonstrated expertise working within integrated design-and-build environments where collaboration between disciplines is essential for success.
- A robust portfolio showcasing completed commercial interiors across various sectors such as workplace environments, retail spaces, hospitality venues, or mixed-use developments.
- Exceptional conceptual thinking abilities paired with meticulous attention to detail throughout all phases of project delivery.
- Comprehensive understanding of space planning principles, workplace strategy development, materials selection processes, detailing techniques, and current industry trends.
- Outstanding interpersonal skills enabling you to build trust-based relationships with clients as well as internal stakeholders at all levels.
- Commercial acumen allowing you to balance ambitious design goals against practical cost considerations without compromising quality or functionality.
- Excellent presentation skills supported by proficiency in relevant software tools including AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp or Rhino platforms alongside Adobe Creative Suite applications.
