Retort Process Engineer
A leading international consumer goods company is looking for a Retort Process Engineer to support manufacturing capability expansion across multiple global sites. This role offers the opportunity to drive process innovation, support new product launches, and contribute to strategic growth initiatives within a complex international supply chain environment.
The organisation is committed to building a diverse and inclusive team, providing flexible working opportunities, and supporting your professional growth through exposure to complex, export-oriented supply chains. If you are passionate about food technology, thrive in collaborative environments, and want to make a tangible impact on global manufacturing operations, this role will provide you with both challenge and reward.
- Enjoy a highly competitive monthly base salary ranging from S$13,000 to S$16,000, reflecting your technical expertise and contribution to global manufacturing excellence.
- Be instrumental in designing, commissioning, and optimising retort processing lines that support new products and expand shelf-stable offerings across multiple regions.
- Work within an inclusive and supportive environment where knowledge sharing, collaboration with cross-functional teams, and flexible working opportunities are actively promoted.
What you'll do:
As a Retort Process Engineer based in Singapore with international travel required, you will be responsible for shaping the future of retort processing within a globally integrated food company. Your day-to-day activities will involve collaborating with engineering teams to design innovative processing lines that meet rigorous food safety standards. You will lead commissioning efforts at various sites worldwide—ensuring smooth startups—and work closely with cross-functional teams to embed best practices. By defining standardised procedures and technical specifications for retort operations, you will enable consistent performance across all locations.
Your role will also include optimising processes for quality and efficiency while influencing key capital project decisions related to equipment selection and layout design. Through hands-on involvement during critical phases such as ramp-up or troubleshooting sessions, you will drive continuous improvement initiatives. Additionally, you will play a vital part in transferring knowledge between sites as the company scales its retort capabilities globally. Success in this position requires strong collaboration skills; your ability to connect with diverse teams ensures sustainable capability-building rather than reliance on individual expertise.
- Act as the technical architect for retort processing capability by setting standards, design principles, and operating models for current and future manufacturing sites.
- Lead the design, setup, and commissioning of retort processing lines across the global network, ensuring safe startup and full compliance with food safety regulations.
- Define and embed standardised process parameters, operating procedures, and technical specifications to enable repeatable performance across all locations.
- Optimise retort processes to deliver consistent quality, throughput, efficiency, yield, and cost performance while balancing technical excellence with commercial outcomes.
- Ensure robust safety, quality assurance, and regulatory compliance throughout all retort operations by collaborating closely with site-based teams.
- Partner with Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality Assurance, Maintenance, and Operations teams to embed sustainable capability at each site and facilitate successful ramp-up.
- Influence capital project decisions including equipment selection, layout design, scalability considerations, and future retrofit planning for long-term flexibility.
- Provide hands-on support during commissioning phases by troubleshooting issues and driving continuous improvement initiatives as a trusted problem-solver.
- Contribute to capital project planning by participating in equipment specification discussions and scale-up decisions for new or expanded facilities.
- Drive knowledge transfer and capability uplift as retort processing expands across sites and regions by building internal expertise and reducing single-point dependency.
What you bring:
Your proven experience as a Retort Process Engineer will be central to your success in this role. You bring deep technical knowledge of process engineering within regulated food manufacturing environments—particularly those involving thermal or retort technologies. Your background includes direct involvement in designing processing lines from concept through commissioning; you have led capital projects requiring careful equipment selection and layout planning. You understand how to optimise processes for quality assurance—safety compliance—and yield improvement using robust control methodologies. Your interpersonal skills allow you to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams spanning engineering—operations—maintenance—and quality assurance functions.
You are comfortable navigating ambiguity when scaling up operations internationally; your pragmatic approach ensures both immediate results and sustainable long-term solutions. Formal academic credentials underpin your expertise; ideally complemented by advanced training relevant to thermal processing systems. Your commitment to knowledge sharing helps build internal capability across geographically dispersed teams while reducing dependency on individual experts.
- Significant hands-on experience in process engineering roles within retort or thermal processing technologies in food manufacturing environments is essential for success in this position.
- Demonstrated track record of leading or playing a key technical role in capital projects involving equipment specification, layout design, commissioning activities, and operational ramp-up.
- Proven ability to move beyond single-site delivery by contributing to the replication of process standards across multiple locations or regions within regulated industries.
- Experience improving process performance—including safety outcomes—quality assurance measures—throughput rates—and yield optimisation using disciplined approaches to process control.
- Exposure to asset-intensive manufacturing environments governed by strict food safety regulations; ideally gained within food production or agribusiness sectors.
- Strong partnership skills demonstrated through effective collaboration with Engineering—Manufacturing—Quality Assurance—Maintenance—and Operations leaders to embed sustainable capability at site level.
- Ability to operate effectively in ambiguous build-and-scale environments where immediate delivery demands must be balanced against longer-term operating model considerations.
- Experience contributing to broader manufacturing or supply chain transformation initiatives beyond pure technical delivery is highly regarded.
- Technical credibility combined with an enterprise mindset that supports organisational goals while maintaining high standards of integrity.
- Formal qualifications including a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering—Food Engineering—Process Engineering—or Mechanical Engineering; postgraduate qualifications or formal training in thermal processing/retort technology are advantageous.
