Technical Accountant - Maternity Cover, 6 Months

Save job

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a technical Accountant to join a globally recognised technology leader on a contract basis, providing essential support to the finance team during a maternity cover period. This role is perfect for someone who enjoys working in a collaborative and inclusive environment, where your expertise will be valued and your contributions will have a direct impact on the organisation’s financial operations

About the Role

You will play a key role in ensuring the smooth running of day-to-day accounting operations while supporting accurate financial reporting during a maternity cover period. This is a hands-on accounting role where you'll be responsible for managing month-end close, maintaining financial records, and supporting business-as-usual finance activities across multiple entities.

Working closely with the commercial, operations, legal and FP&A teams, you'll also provide accounting support on non-routine transactions and assist with applying accounting policies where required. This role offers the opportunity to join a collaborative finance team that values knowledge sharing, continuous learning and process improvement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the full month-end close process, including preparing and reviewing journal entries to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting across multiple entities.
  • Prepare balance sheet reconciliations, accruals, prepayments and variance analysis to maintain the accuracy and integrity of financial records.
  • Support the preparation of monthly and quarterly financial reports, providing analysis and commentary for management.
  • Review customer and vendor contracts to determine the appropriate accounting treatment, seeking guidance on more complex accounting matters where required.
  • Partner with commercial, operations, legal and FP&A teams to provide practical accounting support and ensure compliance with company accounting policies.
  • Maintain strong financial controls and support continuous improvements to accounting processes.
  • Assist with internal and external audit requests by preparing supporting schedules and documentation.
  • Support finance projects, reporting improvements and ERP system enhancements where required.
  • Contribute to the implementation of new accounting policies or standards as part of the wider finance team.

What You'll Bring

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline.
  • CA, CPA, ACCA or equivalent qualification is preferred.
  • 4–7 years of accounting experience with strong exposure to full sets accounting, month-end close and financial reporting within an MNC environment.
  • Good understanding of accounting standards (IFRS/SFRS) with practical experience applying them to day-to-day accounting transactions.
  • Exposure to reviewing contracts or supporting accounting treatment for non-routine transactions would be advantageous, although deep technical accounting experience is not essential.
  • Experience working in a shared services, regional or fast-paced commercial environment is preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and ERP systems such as SAP or Oracle.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to work independently and manage competing priorities.
  • Good communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across finance and business teams.
