Fun fact

''Outside of work, my biggest passion is travelling. It is where you can find yourself by getting a little lost.”

Life before recruiting

“I graduated with a tourism degree and joined a global hotel chain in their management associate program where I was rotated around the various divisions for a year and a half. After the stint, I moved on to product sales but did not enjoy it very much. I saw a lot of potential in the travel and hospitality industry and was really interested in developing the sector. I saw the challenges in attracting the right talent and I wanted to change the mindsets of employers in this space to consider quality professionals from other industries with transferrable skill sets. That’s when I made the jump into recruitment.”

The person needs to be self-motivated, a very strong team player and be able to have fun. These qualities, along with the drive and the ability to fit into the organisation are important.

Why Robert Walters?

“People here genuinely care for one another. We’ve got a very cohesive and collaborative culture. Even though it’s a very intense, sales-oriented job, it helps to have a supportive bunch of colleagues who are always there for me. I have made some really good friends here.”

How to be a superstar recruiter

“The person needs to be self-motivated, a very strong team player and be able to have fun. These qualities, along with the drive and the ability to fit into the organisation are important. Money cannot be the sole motivator behind what the individual does because he or she is then unlikely to be successful. Recruitment is not a short-term career, there should always be a long-term approach on how to sustain your wins. More importantly, being able to enjoy what you do and rewarding yourself with each goal accomplished is crucial as it will go a long way.”

A case of wanderlust

“I enjoy the thrill of experiencing new places and exploring the road less travelled. My latest adventures include spending two weeks hiking in Tibet. I wanted a place where I could immerse myself in some sort of religion. On the first day I got altitude sickness whilst trekking up a hill which was about 6,000 feet above sea level. It was so bad I had to be put on a drip. Although this incident delayed my itinerary, I persisted and continued on to complete the full journey. I’ve been to India to teach English for two weeks and also travelled to parts of Sri Lanka, as well as Europe. Every trip is a reality check for myself - I feel fortunate and contented to be part of Singapore. For my next vacation hotspot, I am planning to explore either Morocco or Jordan!”

Flower power

“As random as it sounds, I just took up floral arrangement and have been reading a lot about it. In recruitment, you need to find an outlet for stress release and also having an entrepreneurial side because you need to manage your own desk. I thought flower arrangement on the side had some parallels to that.”
