Save job

An esteemed financial institution is seeking an experienced Assistant Vice President or Vice President for a six-month contract role in Credit Recovery, focusing on Corporate Remedial and Special Asset Management. This opportunity offers you the chance to make a significant impact by managing a diverse portfolio of distressed assets and non-performing loans across both Commercial and Global Banking sectors.

You will play a pivotal role in formulating and executing recovery strategies, collaborating with a wide network of stakeholders, and ensuring the best possible outcomes for the organisation.

  • Take ownership of a challenging portfolio of distressed corporate accounts, driving value recovery while minimising losses for the bank through effective strategy execution.
  • Engage directly with a broad spectrum of stakeholders including legal professionals, financial advisors, judicial managers, and other creditors, building strong collaborative relationships throughout the recovery process.
  • Benefit from a culture that encourages teamwork, continuous learning through post-mortem reviews, and active participation in management and regulatory projects.

What you'll do:

As an Assistant Vice President or Vice President Credit Recovery on this six-month contract assignment, you will be entrusted with overseeing a substantial portfolio of distressed corporate accounts. Your day-to-day responsibilities will involve developing tailored recovery strategies for each account under your care—balancing commercial objectives with prudent risk management.

  • Manage a portfolio of distressed assets and non-performing loans (NPL) for both Commercial Banking and Global Banking divisions, ensuring optimal recovery outcomes.
  • Formulate comprehensive workout and recovery strategies for distressed accounts, seek necessary approvals, and execute these plans to maximise value extraction while minimising impairments or losses.
  • Represent the organisation independently in multi-bank workouts as well as external meetings with customers, lawyers, financial advisors, liquidators, receivers, private trustees, judicial managers, investors, and other creditors; maintain effective working relationships with all parties involved.
  • Lead proactive recovery efforts including legal actions such as restructuring, rescheduling, enforcement proceedings, writ-of-summons issuance, judicial management processes, bankruptcy or liquidation procedures, pre-packaged schemes or arrangements within Singapore and foreign jurisdictions as required.
  • Conduct thorough post-mortem reviews to identify credit or operational risks encountered during recoveries; deliver briefings to internal stakeholders to share key lessons learned.
  • Assist in the early identification of warning signs for corporate accounts at risk; provide expert advice on risk mitigation strategies for higher-risk exposures.
  • Support management by responding promptly to audit or regulatory enquiries and preparing detailed reports as needed.
  • Represent the Remedial team on relevant ad-hoc projects including sectoral portfolio reviews of vulnerable industries or segments.
  • Collaborate closely with business units and other internal teams to ensure alignment on remedial strategies and foster a cooperative approach to problem-solving.
  • Contribute actively to knowledge sharing initiatives within the team by participating in training sessions or workshops focused on best practices in credit recovery.

What you bring:

To excel as an Assistant Vice President or Vice President Credit Recovery in this contract role, you will bring extensive experience from the banking sector—particularly in credit risk management and corporate account oversight. Your background should include direct involvement with non-performing loan portfolios where you have successfully navigated restructuring processes and asset recoveries.

  • A degree in Banking/Finance, Accountancy, Business or equivalent qualification is essential for this position.
  • At least 5 years’ direct experience managing corporate non-performing loans (NPL), restructuring cases and asset recoveries within banking is required; total banking experience should range between 5 to 10 years.
  • Demonstrated success handling cases involving foreign jurisdictions is considered advantageous for this role.
  • A proven track record engaging with diversified stakeholders such as corporate clients, co-lenders, legal professionals, financial advisors, liquidators and judicial managers is highly desirable.
  • Comprehensive understanding of insolvency laws and practices coupled with deep familiarity with banking products is expected.
  • Exceptional analytical abilities paired with meticulous attention to detail are crucial attributes for success in this position.
  • Excellent negotiation skills combined with strong influencing capabilities are necessary when dealing with complex stakeholder environments.
  • Outstanding inter-personal communication skills are vital; you must be able to collaborate effectively within teams as well as across departments.
  • A diligent work ethic complemented by persistence and a positive attitude towards overcoming challenges is important for thriving in this environment.
  • The ability to take initiative proactively while maintaining flexibility in exploring alternative solutions is highly valued.
