FP&A Manager - Ocean Freight - 6 Months Contract
Our client it seeking an FP&A Manager with freight exposure on a 6-month contract. What you'll do:
As the FP&A Manager, you will be instrumental in providing financial clarity around global shipping operations. Your day-to-day activities will involve close partnership with both finance peers and supply chain leaders to shape tender objectives, analyse bid submissions, model scenarios for potential outcomes, and communicate results effectively across regions. You will monitor key metrics related to shipping costs and performance while proactively identifying areas for improvement. By owning forecasting cycles and preparing insightful reports for senior management, you will help drive cost control initiatives that enhance profitability. Your ability to evaluate contracts, manage compliance requirements, and maintain accurate financial records will be essential in ensuring optimal outcomes for the business. - Collaborate with the Global Shipping Manager and their team to align tender objectives with management strategy and ensure all expenses are accurately accounted for throughout the process.
- Analyse bids during the freight tender process, providing detailed financial insights and scenario modelling to support informed decision-making at every stage.
- Communicate post-agreement impacts clearly to regional teams including General Managers and Chief Financial Officers, ensuring alignment with business goals.
- Monitor and analyse shipping costs and freight rates to identify trends, inefficiencies, and opportunities for cost savings across multiple regions.
- Partner with the global shipping team to develop strategies that optimise shipping routes, schedules, and delivery timelines while improving service levels.
- Advance tracking and reporting on key shipping metrics such as transit times, carrier performance, and shipment accuracy to drive operational excellence.
- Own the planning cycle forecasts for shipping operations by aligning assumptions with cross-functional teams and delivering driver-based insights for inclusion in regional plans.
- Prepare comprehensive reports on shipping costs, trends, risks, and performance for senior management to inform strategic planning.
- Evaluate shipping contracts and vendor agreements to ensure they meet business objectives while maintaining compliance with international regulations.
- Ensure robust internal controls are maintained by managing balance sheet accuracy of provisions and accruals as well as supporting governance requirements.
What you bring:
To excel as the FP&A Manager, you will bring substantial experience from finance roles within complex supply chain environments—ideally involving global shipping or logistics. Your background should include hands-on use of ERP systems like SAP alongside advanced Excel capabilities for data analysis. You are adept at interpreting large volumes of information into meaningful insights that guide business partners through critical decisions. Your interpersonal skills enable you to build trust-based relationships across diverse teams while communicating technical findings clearly. A keen eye for detail ensures accuracy in reporting; meanwhile your adaptability allows you to thrive amid shifting priorities. - Bachelor’s degree in Finance or related discipline is required; certified accounting qualification is desirable but not mandatory.
- Proven experience working with SAP or other Tier 1 ERP software systems within a finance or supply chain context.
- Demonstrated proficiency in advanced Excel techniques including data modelling for large datasets relevant to shipping or logistics operations.
- Familiarity with international shipping practices such as Incoterms, customs regulations, freight market trends, and compliance standards.
- Experience analysing complex financial data sets to provide actionable insights that support business decision-making processes.
- Excellent communication skills with an ability to engage collaboratively with internal stakeholders across finance teams as well as external suppliers or regulatory agencies.
- Strong organisational skills enabling you to manage multiple priorities efficiently within tight deadlines while maintaining high attention to detail.
- A proactive approach towards problem-solving combined with a continuous improvement mindset that supports operational excellence.
- Ability to prepare detailed reports on cost trends, risks/opportunities analysis, variance commentary, and recommendations for senior management review.
