A Linux/Unix Engineer job has become available at a world-class financial services company.
About the Linux/Unix Engineer Role: As a Linux/Unix Engineer, you will be responsible for managing and maintaining the Linux/Unix server environment, ensuring the stability, security, and optimal performance of critical financial systems. Your expertise will contribute to a seamless banking operation and support long-term strategic business objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
Install, configure, and maintain Linux/Unix server systems, including hardware, operating systems, and related software
Monitor system performance and proactively identify and resolve any issues to ensure high availability and reliability
Conduct routine maintenance tasks such as patch management, system updates, and performance tuning
Collaborate with other IT teams to deploy and support applications on the Linux/Unix platform
Implement and maintain backup and disaster recovery solutions for systems and data
Troubleshoot and resolve system-related incidents and service requests within defined SLAs
Ensure adherence to security policies and implement necessary security measures to protect the UNIX infrastructure
Create and maintain documentation, including system configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting guides
Stay updated with emerging technologies and industry trends to propose and implement improvements to the environment
Provide technical guidance and support to junior team members as needed
To succeed in this role, you must have at least five years of experience specialising in Linux/Unix.
Key Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
Proven experience as a Linux/Unix Administrator, preferably in the financial sector
Strong knowledge of Linux/Unix operating systems (e.g., Red Hat, CentOS, Solaris)
Well versed with scripting and automation (Ansible, Python, Bash)
Familiarity with virtualisation technologies (VMware, KVM) and containerisation (Docker, Kubernetes) is a plus
Experience with storage technologies (SAN, NAS) and backup solutions (Veritas NetBackup)
Proficient in performance monitoring, tuning, and log analysis
Solid understanding of security principles and best practices in a regulated environment
Ability to work independently, manage priorities effectively, and adapt to changing business needs
Excellent problem-solving and communication skills
