About the Network and Server Specialist Role:
The Network and Server Specialist is responsible for managing and maintaining the organisation's network infrastructure and server systems. This role involves ensuring the reliability, security, and optimal performance of the network and server environment. The Network and Server Specialist collaborates with IT teams and stakeholders to design, implement, and support network and server solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

• Network Infrastructure Management: Design, configure, and maintain local and wide area network (LAN/WAN) infrastructure. Monitor network performance, troubleshoot network issues, and optimise network resources. Implement and manage network security measures, including firewalls, VPNs, and intrusion detection systems. Ensure network compliance with industry standards and best practices

• Server Administration: Install, configure, and maintain server systems, including hardware, operating systems, and software applications. Monitor server performance and reliability, perform regular backups, and implement disaster recovery procedures. Administer user accounts, permissions, and access controls. Stay updated with server technologies and recommend upgrades or enhancements as needed

• System and Application Support: Provide technical support and troubleshooting for network and server-related issues. Collaborate with end-users and IT teams to diagnose and resolve problems in a timely manner. Install and upgrade software applications on servers and ensure compatibility and proper integration with existing systems. Conduct system and application performance testing and optimisation

• Security and Data Protection: Implement and maintain robust security measures to safeguard network infrastructure and server systems against unauthorised access, viruses, and other threats. Conduct regular security audits and vulnerability assessments. Develop and enforce data backup, retention, and recovery strategies. Stay informed about emerging security threats and recommend countermeasures

• Documentation and Reporting: Create and maintain accurate documentation of network and server configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting guides. Generate reports on network and server performance, capacity, and security. Provide clear and concise communication to technical and non-technical stakeholders regarding network and server-related matters

• Collaboration and Project Management: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to plan and execute network and server-related projects. Participate in capacity planning, system upgrades, and infrastructure expansion initiatives. Coordinate with vendors and service providers to procure necessary equipment and services. Adhere to project timelines and deliverables

To succeed in this Network and Server Specialist role, you must have at least three years of experience as a Network Engineer.

Key Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
• Proven experience as a Network and Server Specialist or in a similar role
• In-depth knowledge of network protocols, technologies, and architecture
• Proficiency in server administration and operating systems (e.g. Windows, Linux)
• Familiarity with virtualisation technologies (e.g. VMware, Hyper-V)
• Strong understanding of network security principles and best practices
• Experience with firewall and VPN technologies
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
• Strong communication and interpersonal abilities
• Certifications such as CCNA, MCSA, or equivalent are preferred
