About the Senior Unix Administrator Role:
In this newly created role, you will be responsible for the design, implementation, and maintenance of UNIX/Linux server infrastructure and related technologies. You will also play a crucial role in ensuring the stability, security, and optimal performance of the UNIX environment, supporting critical financial applications and systems in a dynamic and regulated environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead the installation, configuration, and administration of UNIX/Linux server systems, including hardware, operating systems, and associated software components
• Monitor and optimise UNIX/Linux server performance, capacity, and availability through proactive system tuning and resource management
• Conduct regular security assessments, vulnerability scanning, and penetration testing to identify and mitigate potential risks and vulnerabilities
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to plan, test, and implement system upgrades, patches, and enhancements, ensuring minimal downtime and maximum system uptime
• Develop and maintain comprehensive system documentation, including configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting guides
• Establish and enforce backup and disaster recovery strategies, ensuring the integrity and recoverability of critical data and systems
• Investigate and resolve complex incidents, service requests, and problems related to the UNIX infrastructure within defined SLAs
• Participate in the evaluation, selection, and implementation of new technologies and tools to improve system performance, security, and scalability
• Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, industry standards, and best practices in the financial sector
• Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior UNIX Administrators, fostering their professional growth and development

To succeed in this role, you must have at least five years of experience specialising in Unix.

Key Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
• Minimum of five years of experience as a UNIX/Linux Administrator, preferably in the financial sector
• Extensive knowledge of UNIX/Linux operating systems (e.g., Red Hat, CentOS, AIX, Solaris) and proficiency in shell scripting
• Strong understanding of networking concepts, protocols, and security (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, SSH, SSL/TLS)
• Experience with virtualisation technologies (VMware, KVM), containerisation (Docker, Kubernetes), and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure) is highly desirable
• Familiarity with storage technologies (SAN, NAS) and backup/recovery solutions (Veritas NetBackup, Commvault)
• Proficient in performance monitoring and tuning tools (Nagios, Zabbix, SAR) and log analysis (Splunk, ELK)
• Solid understanding of security principles and best practices (access controls, firewalls, IDS/IPS, SIEM, vulnerability management)
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot complex system issues
• Strong project management skills with the ability to handle multiple priorities and deliver results within deadlines
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders
