Director Investment and Trade (Contract)

An exciting and challenging Director Investment and Trade (Contract) job has been made available at a lead agency for economic development, international trade and investment, and tourism.

About the Director Investment and Trade (Contract) Role:
Reporting to the Investment and Trade Commissioner, ASEAN region, you will play a key role in identifying, developing and promoting business development opportunities in Singapore and ASEAN for Western Australian businesses, as well as attracting investment from Singapore to Western Australian (WA).

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop and deliver investment attraction strategies to promote WA as a location for foreign direct investment and business development in WA across priority industry and growth sectors
• Support WA companies seeking to develop significant trade and investment opportunities in Singapore and broader ASEAN markets
• Initiate, plan and manage programs and activities to generate interest and awareness of the investment and business development potential for WA businesses in Singapore
• Develop and participate in events, conferences, exhibitions, presentations, roadshows and meetings in Singapore to promote the State’s interests in targeted sectors in Singapore aligned with DiversifyWA
• Represent the office and the Commissioner as required, including formal visitations
• Develop and maintain relevant high-level professional networks and relationships in the Singapore, broader ASEAN and WA markets, for the benefit of WA businesses, agencies, institutions, and organisations
• Utilise networks and relationships to facilitate business relationships between WA and Singaporean agencies, institutions and companies
• Maintain up to date knowledge and appreciation of the respective WA and Singaporean political and economic profiles and issues that influence corporate development and keep WA agencies and institutions appraised accordingly
• Manage a small team of local staff including supervising, mentoring and developing staff in the Singapore office

To succeed in this Director Investment and Trade (Contract) role, you must possess considerable experience in and/or sound understanding of the investment and trade activities in the priority industry sectors in Western Australia and Australia for the Singapore and broader ASEAN market.

Key Requirements:

• Strong professional networks across one or more the Diversify WA priority sectors (energy, mining & METs, defence industries, space industries, ICT and cyber including cybersecurity, innovation and start ups, health and medical life sciences, investment)
• Ability to build relationships with key industry and business stakeholders, governments, and professional networks.
• Ability to apply conceptual and critical thinking skills to analyse and resolve complex issues to achieve strategic objectives and identify new opportunities for business and economic development
• Ability to build networks and develop collaborative relationships internally and between industry, Government, community and other stakeholders
• Ability to lead teams through empowering and encouraging them to take responsibility and achieve results
• Ability to take responsibility for actions and decisions, and delivers to a high standard
• Ability to prepare complex written reports and briefing papers and prepares and/or delivers presentations for a wide variety of audiences
• Project management and budgeting skills
• Strong verbal and written English language skills
