Category Specialist

An exciting Category Specialist job has just become available at one of the leading chemical storage companies. The responsibilities include end-to-end procurement, from sourcing, selection, and negotiation to the evaluation of vendors.

About the Category Specialist Role:
For this role, you must have good knowledge of market research, along with solid analytical skills to make sure you are identifying the most profitable offers. You will achieve the best possible cost savings while ensuring the most beneficial supply base for the company.

Key Responsibilities:

• Manage supplier relationships and performance to meet company expectations and objectives, and the most complicated and difficult supplier relationships and performance issues
• Source and identify suitable vendors to collaborate as life-long partners for the the organisation
• Identify opportunities for cost reduction to reduce the total cost of ownership for all related Opex and Capex spending
• Be involved in continuous improvement to improve the procurement process, department competence, and information management
• Consolidate and manage internal spending and vendor base
• Understand sourcing requirements, develop strategy and plan for category spend and vendor base
• Manage percentage savings for identified Influenceable Opex spend, for all related sustaining, improvement and Capex spend
• Regular vendor evaluation, vendor scorecard management, and audits

To succeed in this Category Specialist role, you must be self-driven with a proven ability to collect and analyses data, draw conclusions, and present findings to drive robust category strategies. In addition, you must possess the ability to work in a fast-paced, cross-functional, and collaborative environment while meeting procurement goals and business needs.

Key Requirements:

• Degree in Supply Chain/Business/Engineering or related studies
• Minimum of five years' working experience within the buyer/procurement role
• Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills to manage stakeholders
• Detail oriented with solid planning and organisational skills
• Knowledge of operations, distribution, and other cross-functional processes
• Analytical and decisive with high initiative
