Trading Operator, Petrochemicals

As a Trading Operator, you will be responsible for ensuring seamless trade operations by combining strategic planning with precise execution. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to enhance operational efficiency and contribute to the overall success of the organisation.

Our client is a leading petrochemical trading firm with a strong presence in the global energy and chemical markets, specialising in the sourcing, trading, and distribution of high-quality petrochemical products. They are actively looking for a seasoned Trade Operator to support their business operations.

Key Responsibilities:

• Voyage Planning: Optimise deal profitability through effective voyage planning and execution.
• Workflow Optimisation: Streamline operational processes to improve efficiency and reduce errors.
• Supply Chain Management: Oversee end-to-end supply chain activities, including sourcing, delivery of oil/petrochemical cargoes, payments, anddemurrage handling. Specific tasks include:
  • Reviewing and providing feedback on deal terms and recaps.
  • Preparing and executing sales contracts and General Terms & Conditions (GTCs).
  • Ensuring adherence to critical nomination dates.
  • Supporting the chartering team with vessel clearance, post-fixture optimisation of tankers, and managing demurrage claims.
  • Understanding trade finance and credit terms associated with deals; handling documentation post-completion.
  • Managing provisional/final price approvals and settlements (e.g., telegraphic transfers).
  • Utilising software tools like Aspect or similar platforms for operational tasks.
• Collaboration: Work closely with traders, charterers, and asset teams to ensure smooth integration of operations across functions.
• Contract Management: Negotiate and finalise contracts post-deal closure; evaluate contract performance to ensure compliance with obligations.
• Risk Assessment: Identify operational risks, recommend controls, and implement procedures to comply with industry standards and regulations.
• Process Improvement: Proactively identify opportunities for enhancing workflows and optimising costs.
• Stakeholder Management: Build strong relationships with internal teams, external vendors, asset personnel, and other stakeholders.
• Teamwork & Culture Building: Promote a culture of accountability, growth mindset, and collaboration within the team.

Requirements:

• Minimally 3 years of experience in operations within the oil or petrochemical industry.
• A degree in engineering or supply chain management is preferred but not mandatory; candidates from diverse educational backgrounds are welcome to apply if they possess relevant skills and experience.
• Strong understanding of trade agreements, industry standards related to oil/chemical trading, supply chain logistics, and procurement processes.
• Problem-solving skills with the ability to anticipate potential supply chain challenges and propose effective solutions.
• Excellent communication skills
• Ability to thrive in fast-paced environments while maintaining attention to detail under pressure.
• High proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint; familiarity with operational software tools like Aspect is beneficial.
