Web and cloud IT professionals most in demand

IT professionals and recruiters take note: Hot areas for hiring this year are likely to be cloud computing, Web and mobile app development as well as project management.

ZDNet Asia reported that these are the areas identified by recruitment experts that remain recession-proof for IT professionals even within a conservative hiring climate.

Pri Sandhu, manager of IT commerce division at Robert Walters Singapore, says that in general, he is anticipating moderate but steady hiring given the economic uncertainty in parts of the world's economy.

"In general, most IT companies will adopt a wait-and-see approach, and recruit [only] for critical or replacement [positions]."

However, this is expected to vary across different industry sectors, Sandhu added.

For instance, hiring of IT professionals in the commerce, pharmaceutical, healthcare and electronics sectors is likely to remain active or at least consistent with past years. These sectors have continued to show signs of growth recently and will require additional professionals to boost their workforce.

However, the financial services sector is likely to see muted activity  as organisations take a cautious approach.
